A Gentle Practice to Recognize Your Own Strength

A guided journaling practice

So often, we move through life focused on what still needs healing, fixing, or changing. But what if you paused for a moment, not to think about where you’re going, but to truly honor how far you’ve already come?

This gentle reflection practice is designed to help you recognize the strength, resilience, and courage you’ve already shown.

It’s a way to give yourself credit, to see yourself clearly, and to create a personal list you can return to anytime you need a reminder of just how powerful you really are.

The Practice: Recognizing Your Strength

☕ Step 1: Set the Scene

Find a quiet moment. Light a candle, brew a cup of tea, or play calming music if it helps you feel grounded. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to settle.

🪞 Step 2: Reflect on These Prompts

Open your journal, or a blank page, and let yourself answer the following questions – without judgment, without rushing.

  • What challenges have I faced and moved through in the past year?
  • When was the last time I surprised myself with my courage?
  • What qualities have helped me persevere? (Kindness? Grit? Faith? Patience?)
  • Who have I become as a result of the path I’ve walked?

Let your answers flow freely. Be honest. Be kind to yourself.

💪 Step 3: Create Your Strength List

From your reflections, create a list of your strengths. These don’t have to be big or dramatic – they can be quiet, steady, and deeply personal.

Your list might include things like:

  • I show up even when it’s hard
  • I speak with compassion
  • I am learning to trust myself
  • I keep going, even on the days I want to quit

Write them down and keep the list somewhere you’ll see it – a note on your mirror, your phone background, or folded in your wallet.

Let it be a reminder that you are strong, not because everything is perfect, but because you keep choosing to move forward with strength.

Your strength is not measured by how loudly you push forward – it’s reflected in your tenderness, your persistence, and your willingness to grow.

Keep this practice close, and return to it whenever you need to remember who you are.

🔥 You are resilient.

🔥 You are powerful.

🔥 You are moving forward.
