As the calendar turns to September, something in the air begins to shift.
Schedules fill. The pace quickens. Even if we’re no longer tied to school-year routines, we feel the collective energy of “starting up” again.
And for many of us, especially after a season of loss, caregiving, or personal transformation, it can feel overwhelming.
You may be asking:
How do I move forward when everything still feels tender?
How do I stay grounded when life is speeding up around me?
Here’s what I want you to know:
You don’t have to move at anyone else’s pace.
The truth is, transition—whether emotional, seasonal, or spiritual—is its own kind of sacred time. And you are allowed to navigate it gently.
Whether you’re grieving a loved one, rebuilding after a major life shift, or simply adjusting to a new routine, there’s power in finding a steady center within yourself.
A One-Minute Grounding Practice
When the world feels loud or life moves too fast, try this simple technique. It only takes a minute—and it works.
Pause. Close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath.
Then, gently name:
- 1 thing you see
- 1 thing you hear
- 1 thing you feel (touch)
- 1 thing you smell or taste
This sensory check-in brings you back to the present moment—the only place where true healing happens. You can do this in the car, on a walk, or even at your desk. Let it be a soft return to yourself.
Give Yourself Permission to Slow Down
There is no race to the next version of you.
You’ve already survived so much. You’ve already done so much.
Let September be an invitation to breathe. To soften. To listen to what you truly need.
The seasons may be changing, but you don’t have to rush with them.
Instead, anchor yourself in the truth that you’re allowed to move slowly. You’re allowed to take up space. You’re allowed to find balance in your own time, in your own way.
A Note from My Heart
If you’re in a season of deep transition, you’re not alone.
I’ve walked those roads, too.
That’s why I wrote Over the Rainbow: From the Depths of Grief to Hope, to offer comfort, honesty, and companionship to anyone asking the question: “How do I move forward?”
